Who doesn’t like to buy things, and wouldn’t feel delighted after new purchase?
It always happens to me, when spending money on travel?

.

Seems we live in the century where things make us happy. We think ourselves better, and more successful if we wear latest fashion, drive a fancy car, having a big home.

.

We can hear the echo – BUY, CONSUME, SPEND!

.

On our payday, we swipe the card more often, than someone swipes left and right in Tinder. We spend money on pretty things. Even though it gives us good feeling for a moment, we should ask ourselves, does it make us happy in long term. Often, the answer is “no”

.

Perhaps, it’s time to stop pointless spending. Maybe it’s time to start thinking about all the adventures, good memories, and emotions, that will be possible if we use our money more wisely.

What might happen if we invest money in ourselves, not in a new pair of jeans? Can our lives will change to better, than money can ever buy?

1. I have a shitload of time to buy stuff

.

At the end of the university, stepping my feet in a “real” world, it’s more difficult to plan random trips, and spontaneous adventures.

As long as I’m, like Mr Snoop Dogg sings- “young and wild and free”, and full of energy- instead throwing my gold here and there, I save, and spending money on travel.

I go, and I live!

I’m not saying I’ll not have time to travel in the future. Certainly I have. And most definitely, I’ll be even more secured financially. But what happens when we grow up? Out of nowhere, all kinds of commitments start to appear. One after another. And then, do I still have enough time, and freedom to just go? How many of our parents will pack their bags, and go now for a month, or two, not mentioning for years?

I use my opportunities that I have now!

.

i want to travel but i have no money

2. I always have some exciting stories to tell

.

New phone that I have, won’t impress my future grandkids. However, what will really amaze them, would be a story about how I jumped on a random sailing boat and almost drowned; a story about how I climbed the highest volcano in Central America; a story about how they wanted to put me in jail in NY. These are the stories that will offer excitement, and will give me a badass granny title.

Spending money on meaningless stuff won’t give me cool stories to tell. Spending money on travel, will.

3. Traveling opens minds, and teaches what any book or movie is not able to

.

I can read as many books, and watch as many movies I want, but any film or book doesn’t teach what traveling does.

While traveling, I meet people who live differently than I’m used to see. While roaming around the world, I see different behaviours, that aren’t familiar. Traveling teaches me tolerance, and accepting differences. I understand, that my job isn’t change anyone, I just have to learn to adapt myself to the situation.

Throughout my travels I meet people from all over the world, exploring different cultures, trying different food. I’m stepping out of my bubble, and I open my eyes to the wider world. I experience and feel something, that any film or movie can’t.

4. I’m learning to know myself

.

When traveling, I’m my own best friend. I spend a lot of time with myself, and it helps to see myself differently. I discover fears that I didn’t know to have; personal characteristics that have been hiding somewhere; skills that I’ve picked up spontaneously.

Spending money on travel, helps me to understand who I really am, and what I want for my life.

.

experiences vs material things

.

5. What counts are the beautiful memories, not pretty things

.

Looking back on my life, do I remember the fact that I had new iPhone 6 Plus, while everybody else still used the iPhone 5, or I look back and remember all the adventures I had.

I don’t say you shouldn’t reward yourself after successful, hard, working week. Absolutely not. Actually, quite the contrary. “New pair of shoes” always makes us happy. From time to time, we all need that.

Although this may be true, maybe bigger investments should go for the experiences, collecting memories that you’ll remember for the rest of your life, instead buying something, that will give you good feeling for a moment, but which loses its value faster that you think?

.

spend money on travel not things

.

6. Traveling gives me personal experience, than no one else can experience

.

Things are not personal. It’s cookie-cutter, that hundreds of people before me have already had and used.

When traveling, I experience. I experience something, that is hard to copy.

This is my journey, these are my emotions and feelings. These are my memories. It’s a feeling that belongs only for me. Spending money on travel, gives me the feeling that I can’t convert into cash.

7. Traveling broadens my coterie

.

How many new friends I’ll make while shopping a new dress?

Every day I’m surrounded by friends that grew up with, or used to go to the same school, or we just spend a lot of time together. I’m in a situation where is difficult to motivate myself to go out there, and start making new friends.

However, while traveling, it’s so much easier to open myself. I just ask people to join for a dinner. I mean, who really wants to eat alone? Why should I say no, if bunch of kids asking me to join on a pub tour?

Making new friends, and finding new acquaintances is invaluable. I never no what kind of doors it might open for me.

.

don't worry about money just travel

.

8. Traveling makes me a better person

.

Everyone has their own journey, and will find something, that makes them better.

After a trip to Africa, Central America, or wherever my feet take me, I don’t only learn about different cultures, but I also start to understand them. Once I go home, most definitely I’m much better, more informed, and tolerant person. Traveling consistently pushes me out of my comfort zone, which ultimately makes me a better person.

.

want to travel but no money

.

9. I understand I don’t need a lot to be happy

.

We often feel that there is not enough. Moreover, we want more . When traveling, I realise that happiness doesn’t depend on external factors. I realise that happiness is hiding inside in me, I just need to find it. Happiness is a decision!

.

spending money on travel is smart

.

10. I never regret that I’m spending money on travel

.

Traveling is the best eye opener, most unpredictable, and useful way to spend my hard-earned money. I can’t put price tag on adventures.
