Hiking in the jungle is fun.
I tighten the bag straps. Taking the starting position. Moving closer to the edge. Nice and easy. <<Fuck, this thing is chancy.>> I feel my beating heart. <<Put your shit together, just do it.>>

“Seems like they didn’t have any need for to come here. But it was really nice of them to brought us all the way here. Locals are really kind, aren’t they.!”, waving for the car, we hitchhiked to get to Manzanillo to start our hike to Punta Mona, that now turns around, and goes back were it came.

.

“ESTONIAAAA!!!”, I can hear the familiar voice. That’s Mauricio. The dude, with one leg, we met the other day.

.

It’s time to take flip flops off, and put real hiking shoes on. Having said that, it’s a freakin jungle, with all its trees, animals, and creepy noises. You better have your shoes on.

.

“Let’s start hiking in the jungle”, I cheer.

.

Me and Haile, an amazing duo, having true hiking souls, are well prepared, and informed how to get to Punta Mona. Wait, what? No! Let’s be honest, we’re more, “let’s see what happens”, “we will figure it out anyways”, kinda people. About the hike we know it’s approximately 5.5 miles, one way, and walk goes through jungle. That’s it.
At least we have proper shoes for hiking in the jungle.

Everything is green. So green. Looks like somebody used watercolors to paint the whole jungle. Trees are huge and high. I walk my head up high, and soaking up all the beauty. <<These trees definitely shooting skyward.>>

.

“Shouldn’t we turn left?”

.

Silly question. Obviously Haile knows as much as I do.

.

Walking little bit to the left. Little bit to the right. Then again to the left. That describes perfectly how we’re hiking in the jungle. It’s hard to understand where, or which one is the right track.

Trees are still green and high. Some are bigger than others. Some has dropped down. You have to climb over or crawl under. These are the only choices that nature gives us today.

“Haile, do you know how to use compass?”

“No. You?”

“Well, it shows you where is North, where is South. It has some arrows….No. No, I don’t. Honestly, if they would give out the worst orienteer award, that would be me.”

.

The jungle gets little bit more treeless. Shadows are disappearing, and we can see the sunlight again.

.

We notice a house. An old man. Dog.
“Esta es propiedad privada!”, (it’s private property) we can hear man crying.
“Sabes, donde esta Punta Mona?” (do you know where is Punta Mona?) He doesn’t say a lot. Waving his hand towards the jungle. <<Not very clear instructions from this mister.>>

.

Walking back were we came. Where, don’t have any idea. We’re just trolling around the jungle, in hope to get to Punta Mona today.

Haile forgot her hairband home. Now she’s trying to find a replacement from the nature. I’m looking back, and I see her trying to pluck a vine. The plant is tougher, and she’s giving up.
Since then, strange things started to happen.

.

We’re still walking in an unknown direction. Haile runs around the jungle, and shouts at the fly to leave her alone. This little pain in the ass, has annoyed her for a while.

.

We reach the clearing. Disgusting smell taking over our noses. Poor turtle has been washed to the shore. Seems his heart stopped beating, and now, black birds, who look like vultures, are having a lunch. What we can do, a circle of life.
At least, seems we’re on the right track. Finally.

.

“Wait, we’ve been here already!”

.

Indeed. We’ve arrived to the point where we started our hike. Seems we just wandered around the jungle, almost hour and half, and made it to nowhere. Oh well. No doubt why we don’t take part in orienteering competitions. At leas not yet.

.

Now what?

.

Let’s give it a new try.

.

I’m standing on a little cliff. Waves crushing on rocks, and water splashes in every direction. Haile landed on the other side of the cliff, and walks into the cave. <<That was easy, I can do it.>>

.

I forgot that she has advantage, since she has done it before.

.

My turn. I tighten the bag straps, and take the starting position. Reading the waves, while moving closer to the edge. <<Nice and easy.>> Damn, it’s super slippery. Fuck, this thing is chancy. I feel my beating heart. <<Put your shit together, and just do it.>>

.

Here I am, between the earth and sky. <<Please please. No waves por favor. How she did it?>>

.

.

I jump.

.

Success. I made it to the other side in one piece.

.

The cave is small and dark. We take a seat and looking outside. The waves are playful, at the same time quite churning.

.

We decided not to go to Punta Mona today. We just don’t have enough time to get there and back. We’re pretty brave girls, but wandering around, and hiking in the jungle, at night, in complete dark, definitely not very sparkling idea.

.

Instead, we’re having lunch. The usual- tortillas with avocado and beans.

.

.

It starts raining on our way back home. The rain pouring down on us, soaking us to the bone. When it rains here, it rains properly. Two drops, and you feel like having a shower. However, it feels amazing.

.

Mexicans give us a ride back. I sing them “La Cucaracha”, and probably for this reason, they take us right to our hostel.

.

We’re going to finish our day with a movie night. Before, we go and do a quick swim. Something bites Haile. She’s not sure, but she thinks it’s a jellyfish. This, still unknown, thing gets stuck in her bikini. She’s panicking, and pulls a top over her head. I can’t stop laughing, when I see my dear, half naked, friend running around the sea.

.

Getting over the fear of jellyfish, we’re laying in the bed, watching the movie. I don’t know what it is, but something just fell down from the sealing. And now this thing sits on Haile’s breast. Looks like a frog. No words are coming out of my mouth. Finally she feels that something is wrong. Immediately she jumps out of the bed, out of the room. I’m following her.

.

After a dreadful ruckus, Jackie comes out of her room also. Here we are, solving the frog mystery. They’re going to get some stuff to get rid of this little fella, and I started a watchdog agency.

.

“Girls, don’t get mad, put I lost the frog. Sorry!”

“Whaat??!! Kadri, you had only one task, to keep your eyes on the frog, and you failed.”

.

Finally the frog comes out. Jumping around the room, meter long jumps, before Haile gets him, and returning him back where he suppose to be.

.

“Okay, I’m not usually like this, but today has been super strange. And all these weird shit started to happen after pulling this vine. Never again I’m taking something out of the nature.”

.

What hiking in the jungle taught us? As can be seen –

.

Leave the Mother Nature alone!

.

.

Do you like hiking in the jungle? Have you had similar situations? You do something, and then weird shit starts to happen?
